Get to Know These AAPI Owned Businesses and Local Influencers in Alexandria (and DC area)

Updated: Sep 8, 2021

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and during these times it is even more significant to highlight the culturally rich influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in our country. Hate against this community has risen during the pandemic however, the key word to me is "risen" because the truth is there has always been discrimination and hate against this community in our country. As a member of a minority community in this country, I definitely empathize with the discrimination that is directed towards another minority community. As so many begin to bring to light this discrimination and stand up against it, I am taking it upon myself to continue to learn about other cultures in our diverse country and support an attitude of strength in togetherness. I hope we continue to uplift each other every day regardless of color or culture.

So in recognition of this month, I am celebrating and highlighting some awesome AAPI owned businesses and some of my favorite AAPI influencers in Alexandria and D.C.

Beauty

Meraki - this is my go-to nail and beauty salon in Alexandria and I love that it is also women-owned. The experience is clean, calm, and serene and I love catching up with the ladies as I get a stylish manicure.

Restaurants

Sisters Thai - Recently opened in Old Town North this restaurant has some of the best Thai cuisine, desserts, and drinks around! The decor alone is enough to visit to catch the perfect shot for the 'gram!

Spill The Tea - is a neighborhood bubble tea bar and I'm so happy to have stumbled upon this new restaurant. They are serving up the finest bubble tea and innovative drinks with a small menu selection of food to take with your tea!

Spice Kraft Indian Bistro - while supporting local businesses for takeout during the pandemic I discovered this restaurant and I'm so glad I did. The food is amazing and I love the variety of the menu.

Hummingbird - This restaurant sits right near the waterfront and has the perfect views for brunch which is why my family chose to host my engagement brunch here. The food and service was awesome and I loved being able to celebrate a special time in my life at such a beautiful and bright restaurant.
